Starting Tuesday through August 12, every dollar donated through the Starbucks mobile app or online at http://www.pearljam.com/fighthomelessness will be matched two to one, up to $500,000, by the Starbucks Foundation, to help unsheltered families and children in King County.
It’s part of an effort first announced by Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready in January.
He hoisted the Pearl Jam flag atop the Space Needle to announce two shows on their home turf and a $10 million campaign to end homelessness in Seattle.
“It just feels really sad if you see families or if you see people in this bitterly cold weather as you all know. We’re a really rich city, so hopefully we’ll be able to figure out some sort of solution for this,” said McCready.
Pearl Jam’s Home Shows are scheduled for August 8 and 10 at Safeco Field.
Starbucks and Pearl Jam have also produced a series of short films to bring awareness to the homeless crisis and the people working to make a difference in the community.
