August may not officially begin until Wednesday, but today NAHRO is launching its annual August advocacy campaign. Each week during the five-week Congressional August recess, NAHRO will highlight a different issue that is timely on Capitol Hill and critical for NAHRO members. Please visit NAHRO’s Advocacy Action Center and send one pre-drafted letter per week to your elected officials. This year, we’re focusing on these topics:
- Week 1: Congressional Public Housing Caucus
- Week 2: HOME Investment Partnerships program
- Week 3: Low-Income Housing Tax Credit
- Week 4: Administrative Fees
- Week 5: FY 2019 Funding
We’re kicking off this week with a special competition between NAHRO regions to see which region can get the highest percentage of their Representatives to join the Congressional Public Housing Caucus. This new caucus was formed recently by Congressman Steve Stivers (R-Ohio) and Congressman Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) and they need your help to get support for this critical caucus. To learn more about what a Congressional caucus is and why it’s important for public housing to have this strong support, visit NAHRO’s Advocacy Action Center.
The competition begins now and will continue until the National Conference that begins on October 25. The winning region will get a complimentary registration to NAHRO’s 2019 Washington Conference and a complimentary NAHRO training, which will be awarded by your Regional President.
To participate, simply visit the Advocacy Action Center and send a pre-drafted letter to your Representative asking that he/she join the caucus. To ensure that your letter has been received, follow up with a phone call to the office.
You can also follow the August advocacy campaign on Twitter @NAHROnational and by using the #NAHROAugust3k hashtag.
Thanks to your efforts, last year we sent out 2,500 letters! Help us reach our goal of sending 3,000 letters this year!
